Metal Express Radio: You have just released your debut EP entitled Serene In Violent Oceans on February 21st, what can you tell fans about your latest release?
Nicole: Serene in Violent Oceans offers a tumultuous yet awe-inspiring voyage of introspection. It delves into powerful soundscapes complemented by pop vocals, providing listeners with a balance of contrasting elements.
MER: How was the writing and recording process having this being your first EP?
Nicole: The project revolved around exploring a narrative centered on our most profound desires and revealing the raw, gut-wrenching truths within. It demanded every ounce of my energy to uncover what I truly sought in order to craft the perfect lyrics. Countless intense sessions in the studio were spent piecing it all together. The vocal tracking was incredibly intense at times, almost cathartic. It felt like emotions that had been yearning to emerge for a long while. I take pride in the vocal performances and the authenticity they convey.
MER: You seem to have gone heavier with this EP compared to singles you’ve released in your earlier years, how did this come about?
Nicole: I’ve spent years diving into various sounds and discovering what resonates with me. My musical journey has been diverse, and I’ve loved exploring countless genres throughout my life. In the end, it all boiled down to what felt the most genuine and enjoyable to create. It’s been quite a ride, and I’m thrilled to have found my place in the world of metal.
MER: Do you feel like this gives fans a good idea on what to expect from a full album of yours?
Nicole: For sure! Serene in Violent Oceans marks the start of a significant chapter in my journey as an artist. I’m really excited about the growth I’ve experienced so far and can’t wait to see what the future holds in the next few years.
A MER: What do you see as plans in regard’s to supporting the EP?
Nicole: I am focused on continuous creation following this EP. There’s a wealth of untold stories that I’m eager to share, and the journey is just starting to unfold. Building connections is equally significant to me; I enjoy engaging with fellow artists, fans, potential collaborators, and expanding my network.
MER: What are some of your influences on being a solo artist?
Nicole: Witnessing solo indie artists persevere in 2025 is truly a testament to their dedication and hard work. I admire many of them and continue to learn from their journeys. I draw inspiration from Poppy for her unique aesthetics, Chaney Crabb for her powerful techniques, and Alissa White-Gluz for her captivating melodies and strong social media presence.
MER: Who do you hope to tour with and why?
Nicole: Touring with Jinger, Spiritbox, and Machine Gun Kelly would be an incredible experience. I believe that mixing various sub-genres makes the shows more engaging. It opens up the chance to discover and appreciate new bands that you might not have anticipated enjoying.
MER: If you could put together a touring lineup for your band, who would it consist of and why?
Nicole: I would bring Hayley Williams with me, as she is my favorite vocalist of all time, and we could sport matching hair colors from The Good Dye Young. I’d also include Memphis May Fire for their incredible energy, and I imagine Matty would likely bring his wife and dogs too. Lastly, I’d invite Dayseeker, hoping that Rory would join me for a duet.
MER: How would you describe your music for someone that’s unfamiliar with you?
Nicole: A blend of dark pop, metal-core, and deep melancholy.
MER: What are your hopes for your future in music?
Nicole: Having the right people by my side to make every moment enjoyable, earning a sufficient income to support my family and rescue animals, and working hard to create thrilling shows would bring me a great deal of happiness.
