German death metal band Scalpture are set to release their fourth studio album entitled Landskrieg on March 7th. The band’s guitarist Felix Marbach spoke with Metal Express Radio about their upcoming album, their upcoming tour with Carnal Tomb, the Metal scene in Germany, and more. Check out the chat below!

Metal Express Radio: Your band, Scalpture, are set to release their fourth studio album entitled Landkrieg on March 7th, what can you tell fans about the upcoming release?

Marbach: Lyrically, we’ve chosen the Thirty Years’ War as the historical backdrop for this album. Landkrieg feels like our most mature work to date, and we believe it truly represents where we are as a band right now. It’s a reflection of our growth and the direction we’re heading in musically and thematically.

MER: How was the writing and recording process having this being your band’s fourth album?

Marbach: For Landkrieg, Tobias and I primarily handled the initial composition of the songs. We went through a pre-production phase where we discussed, tested, scrapped, and reworked ideas until everything felt right. The studio time was intense, but with Marco at Hellforge Studio by our side, we powered through it and brought the album to life.

MER: How would you compare this to your previous three albums?

Marbach: As I mentioned earlier, Landkrieg is, in our opinion, our strongest work compositionally. I think we’ve finally found our sound and solidified our identity as a death metal band. It’s the culmination of everything we’ve learned and experienced up to this point.

MER: You’ve released two songs from the album so far, so you feel they represent the album well?

Marbach: Choosing the singles wasn’t an easy task because no single track fully encapsulates the entire album (and that’s a good thing). Landkrieg is a journey, and to truly grasp its range and depth, you need to experience it as a whole. The singles give a taste, but the full album is where everything comes together.

MER: Later this year, you’ll be doing a co-headlining tour with Carnal Tomb, what are your expectations on the upcoming tour?

Marbach:
We can’t wait to hit the road with the Carnal Tomb guys! We’re hoping to learn a lot and grow as a live band. For us, being in a band is all about playing shows and connecting with the audience, so we’re really looking forward to the experience.

MER: What do you see as plans for you and your band after the tour with Carnal Tomb?

Marbach: Gigs, gigs, gigs and starting work on album number five! We’re always looking ahead and pushing ourselves to keep creating and performing.

MER: Who do you hope to tour with and why?

Marbach: We’re open to pretty much everything, so we haven’t really narrowed it down to specific bands or artists. Right now, we’re just focused on making the most of every opportunity that comes our way.

MER: Is there anywhere that’s your favorite to play live and why?

Marbach: So far, all the shows we’ve played have been first-time experiences, so we’d need to revisit some places to really determine if they’re our favorites. That said, the majority of our shows have been incredibly positive, great promoters, venues, and audiences. We feel really lucky in that regard.

MER: Is there anywhere you’re hoping to play live where you haven’t yet and why?

Marbach: We’re open to every opportunity and consider every offer that comes our way. Of course, we’d love to play more shows outside of Germany and explore new territories.

MER: How would you describe the metal scene in Germany?

Marbach:
Germany has an incredible underground metal scene with so many amazing bands, labels, bookers, promoters, and venues. Everyone involved is passionate about what they do, and we feel blessed to be part of it. That said, like any scene, there are a few bad apples, people or groups promoting right-wing ideologies or other toxic behavior. Thankfully, more and more bands and individuals are standing up against that nonsense. To be clear: we have no tolerance for that kind of crap. Stay the fuck away!

MER: Out of your band’s four albums, what is one you would recommend to a new fan and why?

Marbach: Without a doubt, I’d recommend Landkrieg. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved with this album, and I hope that pride shines through when people listen to it. It’s the best representation of who we are as a band right now.
