In the vast landscape of 1990s progressive metal, some of the finest albums have remained hidden from mainstream recognition. Such is the case with Sanvoisen’s masterful second album “Soul Seasons,” released in January 1997 through Noise Records. This German quintet from Pforzheim created a remarkable piece of Progressive Metal that deserves far more attention than it received at the time. This is an interview with vocalist Vaggelis Maranis about this hidden gem, recorded at Stairway to Heaven Studios in Hanover under the guidance of acclaimed producer Tommy Newton. Despite flying under the radar of many metal fans, “Soul Seasons” delivers ten tracks of sophisticated progressive metal, including the innovative jazz-metal fusion of “Behind My Dreams,” the atmospheric title track “Soul Seasons,” and the Spanish-influenced “Waiting for the Rain”. The album showcases the band’s exceptional ability to blend technical complexity with memorable melodies, all enhanced by Maranis’s distinctive high-range vocals.
