The legendary metal band, founded in Borlänge, Sweden in 2003 have finished their 10th album: Astral DoorsThe End Of It All on Metalville Records. According to their press release, the band decided to call the album The End Of It All as a reflection on what the world is like today, and also to somehow say that this might be the last album in Astral Doors’ career. Let’s hope not on both counts.

Astral Doors – The End Of It All was recorded once again in their hometown Borlänge, returning to their roots where it all started. The album was written by vocalist Nils Patrik Johansson, drummer Johan Lindstedt and guitarist Joachim Nordlund.

Lyrics

The track “Temple of Lies” tells us of the dangers of believing pro-war propaganda, and of how these messages can confuse the issues, as well as mislead the people.

It’s a temple, a temple of lies
It’s a fake. Escape the temple of lies

I’m going to war, should have played my guitar
Seduced by the words from a voice in the far
What is right or what is wrong?
I still don’t know what happened
Last man stands, save this land

With a fist held high, I will guide the blind
We march for freedom, loud and proud
With a fist held high, I will guide the blind
So open your eyes, the world is a temple of lies

The lyricist makes a great point in saying that “I’m going to war, should have played my guitar”. Music has a positive power all its own.

Production

Astral Doors – The End Of It All has excellent production values. The drums sound fantastic, the guitars are crunchy, sharp and performed to perfection. The vocals are all well arranged, performed and have powerful melodies. It all comes together to create a top notch recording.

Final Notes

Astral Doors may have taken five years to follow up to their last album, but it was well worth the wait. The songs are all expertly written, very catchy, and great to bang your head and stomp your feet to. Let’s all hope that this new album inspires them to continue to create great music, and not call it quits. For all fans of classic heavy metal, you can’t go wrong with Astral Doors – The End Of It All.
