Ken Mary has made quite a name for himself over the years. Though he started out as a Jazz and Fusion drummer, it was an experience with Kiss in the late ’70s that made him change course and he’s been a Hard Rock / Heavy Metal drummer ever since. He’s played with numerous bands / musicians such as Alice Cooper, Chastain, Impellitteri, House of Lords, Accept, Fifth Angel, and more. He’s currently the drummer for American Thrash Metal band Flotsam and Jetsam.

Lana Teramae of Metal Express Radio had a chat with Mary about Flotsam and Jetsam’s latest album, I Am the Weapon (2024). They also talked about why Flotzilla is a better mascot than Motörhead’s mascot, Snaggletooth; embracing their old and new songs, and how AI is making the music industry even more complicated.

Band Lineup

Eric “AK” Knutson – lead vocals
Steve Conley – guitars
Michael Gilbert – guitars
Bill Bodily – bass guitar
Ken Mary – drums

Lana is a reviewer at Metal Express Radio from Honolulu, Hawaii. She's always had a passion for music, but she didn't get into Hard Rock and Heavy Metal music until she discovered Rick Allen's story in the summer of 2019. She was inspired by his determination to play drums for Def Leppard again after losing his left arm in a car accident. From there, her tastes expanded to other bands such as AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Judas Priest, Saxon, Cinderella, and Overkill. Aside from listening to music, she loves watching YouTube and writing on her personal blog.
