User Review
( vote)Norway’s Doom Groove power trio Ohmwork have released their 6th studio album In Hindsight on Rob Mules Records, and it’s a strong effort worth a listen. Formed in April 2012, the guitarist/vocalist Anders L. Rasmussen, bassist Helge Nyrud and drummer Børge Bendiksen quickly gelled into a hard-hitting band, with a heavy duty soundscape at their core.
In Hindsight
The new album has 8 tracks that take the listener to places where Black Sabbath once ruled, as they groove on catchy riffs and a sound that has a very cool vibe to it. The opening song “Trial Of The Witch, Pt. II” opens with the standard heavy metal-esque creepy narration before punching us in the face with infective riffs, which perfectly sets up the haunting middle 8. The tracks all work well to take the listener on a doomy journey.
Final Notes
Ohmwork – In Hindsight has a lot going for it. It feels like a tribute to old, classic Black Sabbath, with of course a very different vocal approach. Their sound is new, yet totally familiar. Their instrumentation has a very classic sound as they stick to real drums, Marshall amps and a sweet Hammond on “Welcome To My Insanity”. One thing that slightly detracts from an otherwise near perfect mix is the low volume of the vocals. Anders L. Rasmussen has a good voice, and putting a little more focus on the vocal production would take this band up a notch. Overall, it’s a really good listen with songs that are easy to get into without even trying.
