( votes)Few artists have the talent, let alone the where-with-all to release an album where they write, sing, and play all instruments. Clearly, Wolfgang Van Halen is an exception to that rule, as he proved on his first release of his highly successful Mammoth WVH. Out this August is his follow-up release, which is an homage to his father, Eddie Van Halen’s first band “Mammoth”, and the title follows in the same footsteps as Van Halen II as it is also simply titled Mammoth II.
Like Father, Like Son
Wolfgang Van Halen’s talent cannot be overstated as he’s put together a very strong new record, which falls into more of a commercial Hard Rock vein than Heavy Metal. 10 catchy tracks, all very well produced show a lot of diversity in style, and make the album very listenable. Wolfgang Van Halen talks a little about the new record:
“I knew that I wanted the new album to contain elements of what people heard on the debut, but also giving me a chance to branch out a bit. “Another Celebration At The End Of the World” is definitely a song that showcases what people can expect from the new album. It is a high-energy rocker with some fun guitar moments on it. I also pushed myself vocally and it is a song I can’t wait to get out and play live. I can see it being a fixture in our live set moving forward.”
Final Notes
This is definitely one of those instances where talent really does run in the family, and the new album by Wolfgang Van Halen Mammoth II is proof. The 10 tracks have a good amount of variety, and the styles are very poppy, radio friendly Hard Rock that make it something that lots of people can relate to. Mammoth II has more than enough going for it to make it well worth a listen, and for fans of commercial/radio Hard Rock, deserving of a home in your album collection.
