User Review
( votes)Every now and then and album comes out with little fanfare, almost no press and a whole lot of obscurity that has a lot to offer listeners. One such album is Massachusetts based guitarist Glen Poland’s new Hollentor – Divergency. From what can be gathered on his Facebook page, his goal was to make an album that sounded like it came straight out of 1987. While this reviewer is not quite sure if that goal was met, the record is a strong collection of Heavy Metal songs that are written in a traditional Metal style, and the album works.
About the Album
The record features a number of guest stars that Heavy Metal fans are more than familiar with like vocalist Henning Basse (Legions of the Night, ex-Firewind), and superstar guitarist George Lynch (ex-Dokken) adding their considerable talents. The nine songs are all straight ahead Heavy Metal, with melodic vocals and ripping lead guitars. The production is well done, and the album overall is a good listen from the very first spin.
Final Notes
The bottom line is that Hollentor – Divergency is a really good album with some well written/performed music. Glen Poland has brought in some great talent on every instrument to craft his second album, and the overall results are very positive. While the mix definitely does not sound 1980s, the songs do have that style that fans of the genre will enjoy. Hollentor is truly worth a listen, and you may find that this mostly unknown artist has a whole lot to offer.
