Los Angeles Metal band Melted Bodies are set to release a new EP entitled The Inevitable Fork Volume 1 on November 25th. The band’s vocalist/guitarist Andy Hamm took the time to talk with Metal Express Radio about the band’s upcoming EP, the band’s plans for releasing more EPs throughout the year, the band’s unique sound, and more. Check out the chat below!
Metal Express Radio: The band’s new EP entitled The Inevitable Fork Volume 1 is set to be released November 25th, what can you tell fans about the upcoming EP?
Hamm: This will be the first volume of a few coming down the line that will ultimately cumulate into a full length. I think this first batch of songs is a good arc of where the band is headed which we are all really proud of. The songwriting is more mature and with heavier very personal themes.
MER: What can you tell fans about the other EPs that the band will be releasing within the next year?
Hamm: Stylistically and lyrical these songs are much more about internal struggles that I have dealt with for a long time. We all come to inevitable forks in our lives where we have to make choices between settling into what we have become or pushing further into uncomfortable situations. It’s simultaneously deeply depressing or a scary elation to think about especially as we get older.
MER: How was the writing and recording process?
Hamm: I spend a lot of time writing, writing some more and re-writing. It’s my favorite part of the process. I’ll demo out songs and then share out with everyone. We will then rehearse it live, make changes or adjustments or sometimes even kill the song. A lot of thought goes into each instrument on every part. I like to think that every instrument is serving a strong purpose at every section, nothing is there simply as filler or considered less important.
MER: How would you compare this material to the band’s debut album Enjoy Yourself?
Hamm: Musically it’s going to be different which is and always will be Melted Bodies. Writing songs in any style or genre while also making it sound like a coherent body of work is something we take a lot of pride in. I think we’ve stripped back some of the cynicism and sarcasm that was found on Enjoy Yourself. It’s a progression in the right direction, still very heavy and aggressive, but there are new grooves and influences that we haven’t tried before.
MER: The band recently released the single entitled “Therapy,” what kind of feedback have you been able to receive?
Hamm: “Therapy” is probably the closest to what we were doing on Enjoy Yourself so it felt like a good song to launch with. Feedback has been super positive thus far and if that song doesn’t get you going then I don’t know what will.
MER: What else do you see as far as plans for the band for the rest of the year?
Hamm: We are finishing up all the songs currently for the full length and then hoping to get some touring going next year.
MER: Is there anyone that you hope to tour with?
Hamm: I’d love to tour with Chat Pile or Gilla Band
MER: How would you describe your sound to someone that’s unfamiliar with the band?
Hamm: I used to say “Death Metal Devo” as a lazy description, but lately I’ve just been saying we make experimental aggressive music.
MER: What have been some of your favorite releases of 2022?
Hamm: Clipz, Rosalia, Chat Pile, Grave Ives, Wormrot, Soul Glo
MER: What are your hopes for the band’s future?
Hamm: Would love to get outside of LA, play overseas and get on some festival circuits.
