The band’s bio describes their music as blending classic Heavy Metal, Hard Rock and 80s Hair Metal. That was exactly what we were treated to as the JUNO award winning band Striker took the stage at the Metro Music Hall in Salt Lake City on April 25th, 2022.
Lead singer Dan Cleary’s voice was primed and ready which was evident as the show opened with “Heart of Lies”, from their 2018 album Play to Win and “Born to Lose” from the 2017 self-titled album Striker. There was no doubt this was going to be a great show, and it was.
The seven song setlist continued with their new singles “Deathwish” and “Strange Love”. Guitarists Tim Brown and John Simon Fallon were shredding up the stage with an 80s style dual guitar attack of lightning-fast solos and harmonies. At this point the band itself described it perfectly: “The crowd went from 0-100!”
There was no slacking from bassist Pete Klassen and drummer Jono Webster. Their thundering sound rumbled throughout the venue as the band continued the night with songs “Phoenix Lights” and “Too Late” from the 2016 album Stand in the Fire.
The night ended perfectly going back to the band’s 2014 album Armed to the Teeth, with the song “Fight for Your Life”. The band and audience were fully engaged, fist pumping and singing the lyrics together.
If you’re not familiar with this band, I suggest you take the time to check them out, you won’t be disappointed. The tour continues through May 6th here in the U.S. before going to Canada to finish up in Winnipeg.
