JOE SATRIANI: “I Have No Idea What Kind Of Record I’ve Made, Until I Get A Note Back From STEVE VAI”

Joe Satriani 2022

Marching to Mars

The Elephants of Mars is the 19th studio album by guitar legend Joe Satriani. It’s a diverse mix of instrumentals that takes Satch to places he’s never explored before. Each track is like a cinematic soundtrack to multiple genres of cinema. Sometimes you’re engaged in a drama, other times it’s action-adventure, and on a few occasions a sci-fi affair. I had the chance to speak with Joe Satriani ahead of the album’s release.

Highlights Include

  • Discussion of his new album The Elephants of Mars
  • The stories behind the instrumentals
  • Growing up in New York and the music scene then
  • After 19 albums, has Satch ever duplicated himself?
  • Is guitar-based music dead?
  • How new guitar players aren’t getting the support he did coming up
  • His canvas and guitar artwork
  • Touring plans
  • What Satch thinks about Steve Vai’s Hydra guitar
  • The scrapped Satriani vocal based album
  • … and much, much more!
