Saints Will Conquer
To honor the 30th anniversary of Armored Saint’s career-defining album Symbol of Salvation, the Los Angeles Heavy Metal quartet hit the road in 2018 to play the album in its entirety and in its original order. I was lucky enough to to catch their performance in Boston at the Brighton Music Hall. To say the show was amazing would be an understatement. Armored Saint was firing on all cylinders that night. Even lesser known tracks seemed familiar and full of energy. At the conclusion of the Symbol of Salvation set, Armored Saint returned for a best of set. It was the best club show I had seen all year.
What I was unaware of was that on the prior night, Armored Saint was The Gramercy Theater in New York, filming their performance for a future live CD/DVD release. In October of 2020 Armored Saint released their 9th studio album Punching The Sky [review], an album that could stand on equal footing as Symbol of Salvation. The only problem was, the band couldn’t tour on it.
Armored Saint decided while they were forced idled, they would release the material they had accumulated on their their memorable 2018 tour. On October 22, 2021 Armored Saint will release Symbol of Salvation Live on CD/DVD, and multiple vinyl configurations. I had the chance to speak with Armored Saint front man John Bush ahead of the album’s release.
