( votes)The Backstory
Hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark, Shotgun Revolution released their first album Join the Revolution in 2010. In between club and festival performances throughout Europe, the band released 3 follow-up albums. Their 4th studio album is IV. It was produced by famed Metal producer and fellow Dane Jacob Hansen. IV is self-released.
The Album
Haunting riffs drive “Wormwood,” while Ditlev Ulriksen vocals tell a dark yet melodic tale. “Enter the Fire” kicks up the energy with Kasper Lund’s pounding drum beats and the fuzzy riffs of Martin Frank. “Under the Surface” is a radio-friendly single that you’d expect on Modern Rock radio. Think Alter Bridge lite.
“Black Angel” is a tale about man that’s lost his faith in God and is embraced by the Devil. “Claustrophobia” is a straight-up high tempo rocker filled with lots of punch. Michael Venneberg’s bass takes command of “Silent Torture.” Not only is “Cafe of the Damned” a silly title, the lyrics are just as wacky.
The Verdict
Shotgun Revolution cite their influences as Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC & Guns N Roses, but with a twist. The twist is, they sound nothing like them. They are more reminiscent of the Post-Grunge bands of the 2000s. The faster tracks on IV are rather exciting, but they can’t make up for the slower tracks that are a bit boring.
