( votes)The Backstory
German four-piece Rezet released their first album for Metalville Record in 2019 entitled Deal With It!. Wasting no time Rezet returned to the studio to record what they call their “most song oriented album. The result is 2021’s Truth in Between.
[Listen to our Ricky Wagner interview HERE]The Album
Rezet make it clear that they are coming at you hard on “Back For No Good.” Frantic riffs, pounding drums, and snarling vocals command the track, while things stay just as intense on “Deceived by Paradise.” Vocalist Ricky Wagner is reminiscent of a young Dave Mustaine in that he can’t hit the high notes, but you don’t care because of the intensity and anger in his delivery. “Populate. Delete. Repeat.” is dominated by a powerful marching beat, as Wagner barks out the orders. It’s pure Metal guitar solo fury during the sped up middle section.
“Half a Century” is a schizophrenic mix of mid and fiery tempos. Cobra Spell/ex-Burning Witches guitarist Sonia Anubi contributes a memorable solo while bassist Bjarne Otto lays down some thumping bass riffs. Rezet slow things down on “Infinate End,” but a dark tone and bleak outcome looms over the song. “Jailpit” is a thrasher that makes you want to fight (or mosh). Wagner is a man possessed on “The Plague.” It’s a little surprising that “Never Satisfied” wasn’t the lead single. It’s the most “radio friendly” of the bunch.
The Verdict
Truth in Between bridges the gap between old-school Thrash and modern Heavy Metal. Somehow Rezet figured out how to present a polished album that feels raw and live.
