( vote)No Frills Old School Metal
The band may be new, but the music is classic as Generation Steel releases their debut album on Pure Steel Records with Accept guitarist Uwe Lulis producing. Founded by guitarist Jack The Riffer (ex-Dead Man’s Hand, ex-Bullet Train) in 2019, Generation Steel have assembled a team of veteran musicians with Pascal Lorenz (ex-Oscura, ex-Corbian) on guitar, Michael Kaspar (ex-Squealer) on bass, Martin Winter on the drums and vocals by Rio Ullrich.
Heavy Metal Guitars and More
Although Generation Steel is a relatively new band, their musical style is as classic a Metal style as you could find with the band playing no frills guitar metal in the vein of U.D.O. and early Accept. The sound is solid, and the musicianship is excellent on all counts. Generation Steel plays riff oriented Metal with big anthemic choruses that quickly grow on you. The production has a raw enough sound that makes it refreshing in this era of over-processed instruments and virtual drummers.
Favorite Tracks
The album starts off smartly with what is probably the best tune in the title track “The Eagle Will Rise”, as the rhythms get you headbanging straight away. Another top contender for this reviewer is “Warbringer” with its rapid-fire guitars and double bass drumming making a great backdrop for the solid vocal work of Rio Ullrich. For a very Judas Priest sound “Temple of Malady” has a lot to offer with its heavy duty guitars and clever tempo changes.
Final Notes
Generation Steel have not reinvented the wheel when it comes to coming out with a new work of Heavy Metal songs, but does anyone really want them to? Their sound is Classic Guitar Metal in the tradition of the greats like Judas Priest and Accept, and for this reviewer that’s just fine. The Eagle Will Rise is an album worthy of adding to your metal collection, check it out and support the music you love by buying the media.
