In the early 80s, Attaxe was the local underground legend that almost made it. The Cleveland, Ohio metal act cut 8 demo recordings from 1986 to 1990 while rocking clubs and bars in the surrounding areas. Attaxe called it quits around 1990, but that wasn’t the end of the road for vocalist Juan Ricardo. Ricardo went on to front many, many other local and nation underground acts including (in no particular order); Blind Cross, Ritual, Sunless Sky, Wretch, Dark Arena, Torment, Stryker, Chemkill, Chronic Rage, Warmaster, and Zyklone (I’m sure I’ve missed a couple).
20 Years The Hard Way brings together the very best Attaxe had to offer on their demos. The album was originally released independently in 2006 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Attaxe. 20 Years the Hard Way is seeing its second release in 2020, this time on Pure Steel Records, in anticipation of a brand new Attaxe album in the near future. Metal Express Radio spoke with Juan Ricardo about the Attaxe archive release, their wild and crazy 80s heyday, and all the other band projects he has going on.
