( votes)Dirty Shirley is the debut album from Dirty Shirley, the latest in a long series of projects from legendary Dokken/Lynch Mob guitarist George Lynch. Dirty Shirley features Croatian phenom vocalist Dino Jelusic, of Animal Drive. Jelusic has been favorably compared to David Coverdale, Ronnie James Dio, and a number of iconic vocalists, and is a great fit for this project. Dirty Shirley has an unavoidable point of comparison with Lynch’s previous Lynch Mob records, and at times Jelusic is very reminiscent of Oni Logan.
Dirty Shirley has a number of strong songs, including the debut single, “Here Comes The King”, and “I Disappear”. Lynch continues to explore different styles and techniques on this record, and it is really up to the listener to decide if they like it. “I Disappear” has an extended musical break that seems a bit disjointed, but otherwise is one of the stronger tracks. Several other tracks have different flavors. “The Dying” begins with a very jazzy sound, that evolves into a hard rocker.
Lynch’s chops are strong, and ultimately it will be up to the individual listener whether the more exploratory ventures are ultimately inspired, or self-indulgent and detrimental to the finished project. Fans of Lynch, Lynch Mob, Dino Jelusic, and Hard Rock will want to check Dirty Shirley out for themselves.
