( vote)Power Metal torch bearers Twilight Force have successfully navigated the dark, menacing waters of their latest line-up change. Former vocalist Christian Eriksson left the band for reasons that were never fully explained. Taking his place on the front of the band’s oaken, steel-reinforced battering ram is none other than Alessandro Conti. His work with Trick Or Treat, Conti / Lione, and Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody, has cemented his stratospheric vocal abilities into the halls of Power Metal legend and pageantry.
Dawn Of the Dragonstar is the band’s first studio album with Conti on vocals. It has all of the lush, symphonic layering that Twilight Force is known for and Conti’s voice is an excellent fit for the group. Conti has a reputation as an excellent live singer, and this may be a welcome change for Twilight Force, considering some of their previous efforts in the live domain. The vocal melodies on Dawn Of The Dragonstar take full advantage of Conti’s abilities, and although there are many orchestral and choral passages, they generally avoid stepping on the lead vocals.
The track “Blade Of Immortal Steel” features the band exploring a more non-traditional Power Metal sound, while other more conservative tracks like “Queen of Eternity” will please fans of the band’s older back catalog. Overall this album is triumph for Twilight Force, both musically and in showing that the band can soldier on through line-up changes and still maintain its massive, decadent sound.
