( votes)Enigma Fire is the latest offering from German Symphonic Progressive Metal act Visionatica. This album is another example of a technically excellent yet artistically lacking release in the genre. Although the album features many excellent performances, perhaps most notably from drummer Gerhard Spanner, the songwriting and arrangements are disappointingly predictable. Overall, the band sounds as if they’re just not having enough fun, and that gets transmitted to the audience through an uninspired delivery.
All that being said, there really is nothing to find fault with in the album production or performances. Vocalist Tamara Amedov’s voice is a great fit for the style and she hits all the right notes at the right moments. The band in general is tight, solid, and unquestioningly professional.
There’s a lot to like from Visionatica, but perhaps it is the fact that they do so many things right, but still don’t quite seem to reach their full potential that makes the band seem lacking. Enigma Fire is a good album, but won’t do much to help or hinder the band’s career.
