( votes)Open Wide is the second album from British Melodic Rock band Nitrate. The current lineup features original members Nick Hogg, bass guitar & keyboards; Rob Wylde, rhythm guitars, keyboards; Pete Newdeck, drums: and new additions Marcus Thurston – lead guitar and Philip Lindstrand, lead vocals. Nitrate has a very good sound, calling to mind some of the great Hair Metal bands, such as Stryper, Bon Jovi, and Europe.
Open Wide kicks off with “You Want It You Got it”, an anthemic Melodic Rocker with killer vocal melodies and harmonies, that could’ve easily been a radio hit in the heyday of the Sunset strip. The songs are well written and well produced. The performances are very good, with just a smidge of slop in some of the faster lead guitar lines, and an occasional drum hiccup. “Bad Girls” is another lush radio hit, definitely an homage to the Bon Jovi influence with a nod toward “You Give Love A Bad Name”.
Over all, Nitrate have produced a very listenable and enjoyable Melodic Rock album in Open Wide. The record is definitely worth a listen to the Melodic Rock fan, Hair Metal fan, 80s Rock fan, and of course Nitrate fans.
