( vote)Being an independent, crowd-funded release, Morano’s debut full-length album Incognito is a wonderfully fun, pleasant surprise. Although the release is placed squarely in the New Wave of Eighties Hair Metal genre, the album is so well done that it’s hard to find any issues with it, aside from the derivative nature of the style. Incognito features a variety of vocalists, but they all sound remarkably similar. The sound is reminiscent of TNT, Winger, White Lion, and other Pop Metal bands of the era.
Songs like “After The Love”, “Manhattan”, “Cookie Jar”, and “Barely Breathing” are riff-driven rockers. Other tracks, such as “Feel The Fire”, and “Don’t Believe You” range from up-tempo hard rockers to classic power ballads, respectively.
Although fans of heavier, perhaps more progressive, genres may find this material to feature a certain naïve quality, anyone who’s looking for the perfect soundtrack to blast from their ’90 C4 Corvette Convertible (Teal color) will be thrilled with Incognito. Band leader Duane Morano has perfectly captured the spirit of this style. Consider that this is his first full-length, self-funded album, that’s a major accomplishment.
