( votes)Metal Shock is the second full length release from Italy’s Traditional Metal band TIR. Formed in 1980, the band spent many years focusing on live performance, opting not to release a record until 2011. Original guitarists Sergio Bonelli and Danilo Antonini are joined by bassist Dino Gubinelli, drummer Peiro Arioni, and vocalist Giuseppe Cialone, recording songs that have been part of the band’s live show for decades.
The band opted to record all the vocals in Italian, bucking the trend of utilizing English to broaden their appeal. The songs are decently written and arranged, with some very traditional thrash metal elements present, but there are departures. “Crazy Mama” is reminiscent of “American Idiot” by Green Day. “Dentro Il Vuoto” is almost Melodic Rock. “Beat 150” is a straight ahead rocker.
The performances are pretty solid. Drums and bass are well done. The vocals are a little shaky at points, most noticeable when harmony vocals are present. The lead guitar work is spotty and a little sloppy. This is a also noticeable in the fast moving rhythm parts. Overall, Metal Shock is a decent listen, with some variety. Metal and and Melodic Rock fans may find something to enjoy.
