( votes)On The Conjuring, French Power Metal act Elvenstorm have managed to maintain their aggression and passion, while leveling up both the album production and overall execution of their performances. Vocalist Laura Ferreux is in top shape, and will more than please fans of the more aggressive female Power Metal vocalists such as Melissa Martin, or the various Battle Beast singers. Fans of the Edenbridge / Nightwish camp will be left standing alone in the cold, as Elvenstorm’s sound is much more rooted in Traditional Metal than the now common operatic styles.
The first single from The Conjuring is “Devil Within'” and it’s a fine representation of the album as a whole. One noticeable difference on this release compare to Elvenstorm’s earlier works is the use of additional keyboard pads. Although there is a noticeable increase in synth use on The Conjuring, it is still limited to song intros and outros and is generally kept out of the main meat of the song. This lets Elvenstorm retain their aggressive Power / Speed Metal position and keeps the intensity of the songs high.
All things considered, this is the best Elvenstorm album to date, and may become an easy favorite of Thrash starved, old-school Power Metal fans.
