( votes)Imagine Your Reality is the debut solo effort from Ryan Roxie. Roxie is best known as Alice Cooper’s lead guitarist and collaborator, and has also worked with Slash and Gilby Clarke, and has been a member of Classic Rock band Casablanca. Roxie has pulled in an impressive list of collaborating musicians for his first debut. Most notably, Robin Zander of Cheap Trick, who provides guest vocals on “California Man”, and drummer Glen Sobel (Alice Cooper), who provides drums on “Big Rock Show”, “Me Generation”, and “Nevermind Me’. Roxie’s singing voice has a gravelly quality to it, calling to mind Taime Down of Faster Pussycat.
The record is well produced, and has a good sound, but the material is sterile and uninteresting. The lyrics and melodies for the most part are generic and trite, more interested in rhyming than quality. The guitar offers little outside the box of clichéd riffs and leads, and it sounds contrived across the board. Imagine Your Reality sounds very much like the soundtrack to a movie about a bluesy rock band that almost made it big. In fact, “Over And Done” immediately calls to mind Crucial Taunt’s version of “Ballroom Blitz” from Wayne’s World. Fans of Bluesy Rock, 70s and early 80s Rock may want to check this out.
