( votes)World Of Zionix is the second studio release from Bogota, Colombia based Neoclassical/Power Metal band Energema. The brainchild of lead guitarist and band leader Nicolas Waldo, long time solo instrumental shredder, and band mates Alejandro Pinzon, vocals; Andres Parada, rhythm guitars; Daniel Pinzon, bass guitar; and Leandro Ariaz, drums, Energema take on a thematic interpretation of The Chronicles Of Narnia for the lyrical content of World Of Zionix. Overall, the record is well done. Stellar performances by all performers. The mix is dry and narrow, and would have benefited from some more stereo separation and spatial effects, and some frequency differentiation between guitarists. It’s a little undefined at times, and the lead shredding loses some punch to frequency cancellation.
The vocals stand out a little too much as well. They fly over the mix instead of nestling into it, and some pitch inconsistencies in the very high harmonies pop out much more because of it. The lead guitar is very fast and adept, and full steam ahead. Stand out tracks are “Aren” and “Fire Of Creation”, which are the more melodic of the faster songs. “Angel Dust” and “The Hermit Of Telvan” are the ballads, and have an almost Medieval quality to them. The instrumental track, “Blue Fire Torch”, and much of the other material are almost fatiguing to listen to because of the breakneck pace and harsh mix. Power Metal, Neoclassical, and Energema fans will most likely find some enjoyable moments on World Of Zionix.
