( votes)Beyond The Rain, the new album from WildeStarr, finds the band exploring a Thrash oriented style mixed with Traditional Hard Rock and Traditional Power Metal vibes. The album packs enough punch to please fans of heavier styles, while still maintaining the essential melodic sensibilities of classic arena anthems and crowd-pleasing singalong tracks.
London Wilde’s vocals are a standout element of Beyond The Rain. Her style is reminiscent of Crimson Glory’s late Midnight and, more recently, Todd la Torre of Queensrÿche. Wilde’s voice carries the songs well and makes a strong case for the resurgence of the high-note belters.
The largest black mark on Beyond The Rain is the production quality. The drum sound is very sterile and even sounds as if it was done with an older, programmed drum machine. The drum parts do fit the songs, but the tone is lacking. Similar critiques can be leveled against the guitar work. The riffs are there, but the tone, like the drums, sounds artificial and lacks the organic, warm crunchiness that Classic Metal influenced albums typically deliver. These production limitations put a dampener on what would otherwise be a solid collection of new, Classic Metal songs.
