( vote)On the surface, Starblind seems like another Iron Maiden “sound alike” band in the vein of Attick Demons. Bands like this specialize in replicated the sound of classic New Wave of British Heavy Metal acts, but with their own original material. This is becoming more and more common, to the point where the creation of a specific sub-genre name might be appropriate. Maiden Metal perhaps.
With a deeper listening, Starblind’s third release, Never Seen Again, has some pleasant subtleties and nuances that we would normally never find on an Iron Maiden release. The opening track, “The Everlasting Dream Of Flight” has a mood-setting synth intro that preps the ears for the coming sonic onslaught. Following this, “The Shadow Out Of Time” keeps things going with a face-melting vocal performance and textbook dueling guitar solo. As we delve deeper in this 10 track release, we find more and more tributes to Starblind’s obvious influences. “Demon Rider” is a highlight, while also being one of the least original of the tracks. Its similarity to Maiden’s “Flight Of Icarus” is undeniable.
Simply put, any fan of Iron Maiden or the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal genre in general will enjoy this release. While Starblind certainly hasn’t developed their own sound, the one they do have is well produced, heartfelt, and well-loved.
