( vote)Thousand Foot Krutch successfully blend all the styles of music that people who don’t really listen to music enjoy. Flavors of Pedestrian Country Rock, Pop, Modern Rock, and Hip Hop are found here, combined to form a familiar yet inoffensive cocktail of contemporary music. Untraveled Roads is a live album representing a typical TFK set from the past several years. Everything from the album artwork and title, to the songs, is cafeteria style and prompts the question: Did this album really need to be made?
Right off the bat, we can hear some invasive Auto-tune processing on the vocal tracks, and to TFK’s credit, this could simply be from the live Auto-tune use at the concerts, but it certainly gives this release a very non-live vibe. The producers have left in the between-song shtick which is always a nice touch and it does help return some of the live feeling that is stolen by the album’s clean-shaven production.
Untraveled Roads is the kind of album that a bored Kid Rock would make if he wasn’t busy doing other, more interesting, things like running for US Senate. This release, while technically proficient, is forgettable and artistically vacuous.
