( vote)The New Roses, and bands like it, fill a somewhat sad but much needed role of entertaining the aging rockers of days past. With choruses that are easy to sing but hard to remember, slick sound production, and a sub-genre classification that lands somewhere between Southern Rock and Glam Metal, One More For The Road is a perfectly calculated, but totally soulless collection of songs that are perfect for blasting while you reorganize your garage.
These very American-sounding German rockers will thrill you at the next car show with songs about girls they met at the bar, driving on the open road, drinking, and drinking with the girl they met at the bar, on the open road.
While many of these songs are technically excellent, One More For The Road as a whole, has a recycled, unapologetically derivative attitude about it that leaves a bland taste in your mouth. Casual fans of Rock Music may find this release to be something that they don’t dislike. Despite the pedestrian sound here, The New Roses are signed to Napalm Records, and as such, they may have several more chances to dig deeper and produce something with more substance.
