Second Reality is the second studio release from German Melodic Power Metal Band Ela. The current line up consists of Ela, Lead Vocals, Ralf Stoney, Guitar, Micha Kasper, Drums, and Chris Kolb, Bass Guitar. The record was produced by Stoney and Andy Horn, with Horn handling mix and mastering.

Second Reality features 12 tracks and has a run time of just under 50 minutes. There are some good points to this record — some good riffs, and some bright spots vocally. The rhythm section is tight. But there are instances throughout where there are tonal clashes, and the arrangements lack flow. Some of the tracks, “Revenge” in particular, struggle to find a groove and stay in it. The lead guitar is not really of the caliber one expects from Melodic Power Metal. “Deadly Sins” isn’t bad, except for the odd tonal glitches and some inexplicable growled vocals that just aren’t good. The drums are too forward in the mix, giving the whole record an unpolished sound.

Fans of Ela will probably find something to enjoy, and the album is worth a listen for fans of Power Metal, who may enjoy some of the better tracks.

Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
