( vote)Wraith, with a decidedly American attitude and feel, is being hailed by many as the New, New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. This sleazy, strutting collection of Detonator-era RATT meets Dokken tracks has everything you think you love about late 80’s Heavy Hair Metal. On Revelation, Wraith’s 5th full-length studio album, the band proves that they’ve spent the last couple decades honing their craft and have somehow avoided the artistic paralysis and bitterness that so many bands from this era developed.
Revelation comes out swinging with one of its strongest tracks, “Lifeline”, before transitioning to a handful of mid-tempo headbangers. Mid-album we are treated to a warm yet soul-wrenching power ballad with “Leaving Me Again”. The title speaks for itself. Naturally, things pick up a bit after this which is where we find some of the album’s strongest material with “No Respect” and the positively, darkly brilliant “Invasion”. The release closes with some strong Accept vibes on “Human Hater”.
Wraith’s expert level combinations of Hair Metal, Hard Rock, and Classic Heavy Power Metal create an album that is derivative, but still an absolute joy to listen to.
