( vote)Now up to their 4th album, Cellador has gained a firm standing among the ranks of Extreme Power Metal bands like Dragonforce, Heavenly. and Silent Force. On Off The Grid, they push deeper into the wise, ancient forest of Traditional Power Metal, Thrash, and Speed Metal. The result is a jam-packed 10-track offering that is sure to please Power Metal fans, but most likely be thoughtlessly dismissed by the Metalcore crowd.
As on previous Cellador albums, the production is fantastic and there are plenty of top-notch musical and vocal performances to be found. While there are some obvious, contemporary influences such as Dragonforce, noticeable on tracks like “Swallow Your Pride” and “Running Riot”, Cellador has established itself enough that these blatant tips of the pirate’s hat will probably be easily embraced by most fans. In an age where many Power Metal acts, young and old, are leaving loud guitars behind in favor of complex orchestral parts and synth lines, Off The Grid‘s proud aggression and attitude is refreshing and invigorating.
Highlights include “Shadowfold”, “Wake Up The Tyrant”, and “Shimmering Status”.
