( votes)Canadian metallers Striker, having capitalized on their successful 2016 release Stand In The Fire are back just 1-year later with Striker. This 9 track self-titled collection of purified molten steel combines the best elements of younger groups like Kissin’ Dynamite and Santa Cruz with heavier, classic Thrash and Power Metal influences. The result is a catchy, fist-pumping blend of all the best parts of your favorite bands. Vocalist Dan Cleary’s laser focused sonic penetration is the perfect delivery system for familiar Metal lyrical themes. Although the lyrics could perhaps be at risk of being cliche, if not delivered well, the vocal execution and overall album production raise these themes to rest upon a well-deserved pedestal.
Guitarist Tim Brown’s leads are a highlight of the album, featuring a crisp, tight precision that is typically only found in veteran European acts like Stratovarius and Heavenly. Overall, Striker is a fan-friendly, relevant Metal album that is easy to love and hard to turn off.
Highlights include “Born To Lose”, “Shadows In The Light” and the full-throttle “Curse Of The Dead”.
