( votes)Greece’s own Firewind is back at it again after a rather long (for them at least) hiatus with their 8th studio record entitled Immortals. For those new to the band, the leader is none other than Gus G, who is an immensely talented Power Metal guitarist who has also released solo records and has most recently been named the main guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne’s band.
The only thing “plaguing” Firewind throughout their existence has been lack of continuity at the microphone. They’ve at times had some real talent there, but that signature Firewind style has been lacking due to the frequent vocalist changes. The latest chap to take a crack at it is Henning Basse, and with his Traditional/Classic Metal voice, he seems to fill the role quite well and his vocal style blends impressively with the music on this Immortals CD. So, at least that main hurdle (for now) is conquered.
But, as expected, the true star of the show is Gus G and his tasteful playing and blistering virtuosity as the main axeman of Firewind. Guitar enthusiasts likely will never tire hearing Gus play, and Gus certainly doesn’t disappoint throughout this release.
One of the better Power Metal releases to be sure for all of 2017 … check it out.
