( votes)Give the gift of Metal this season and unwrap the Progressive Melodic greatness of The Blackened Heart. As Enbound’s second album, it matches the first with great guitar work and Lee Hunter’s prominent voice.
The record starts a little off-center with a vocal solo prance, but quickly gets tougher. The Pop sound is definitely felt, though, and doesn’t entirely dissipate. However, Pop is known for catchy choruses, and this record has many. One of those is “Feel My Flame”. It is also the best track on the record featuring great work by all. A perfect bass shred at the bridge fits perfectly and is truly a technical marvel. Love lyrics get a little sappy on track 7, but are redeemed with a sincere Stone Sour-like ballad of “They Don’t Really Know”.
This album may be a little pretty for some, but there are chugging riffs reminiscent of In Flames and dramatic key changes that give the album some grit.
