Graham Bonnet has been a leader in Rock and Metal even before replacing Ronnie James Dio in the band Rainbow, producing anthems such as “Since You’ve Been Gone” and “S.O.S.” These, and other greats, have been re-recorded for the second half of this two-disc powerhouse called The Book. One could consider disc two a Graham Bonnet greatest hits, as it also contains songs from his time with Alcatrazz, Impellitteri, MSG, and his solo career. Re-recording those songs was a great idea. Not only does it highlight gems of the past, it also creates a polished and restorative feel. And if that doesn’t attract you, at least the recording consistency means you won’t be changing your EQ settings for each song.

The first disc is the real surprise. Eleven tracks of brand new music. Bonnet’s talent flawlessly flows through each one. The hooks are natural and exhibit the fine skills of his supporting musicians. If you didn’t know better, you’d think they were also his classics; each projects Bonnet’s powerful voice, and the disc progresses with the right amount of variance.

The Book is a perfect choice for those who know Graham Bonnet well, but will resonate as much or more with those not as familiar with his work. Some classics may draw up memories from old radio hits, but everything will sound as fresh and intriguing as the first disc will to his loyal fans.

Jude was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio, living in Taiwan but originally from the great state of Ohio, USA. He first got into music when a fellow weirdo in his catholic high school needed someone to play guitar with. They jammed on some Grunge Rock, but soon he got hooked on the blisteringly-fast shredding of Randy Rhoads and other greats. Later, he bought Metallica's Ride The Lightning as his first album purchase. During that time, his friends and him would end up at local Metal shows. He played in some bands himself as well.
