( vote)Vanexa! The cornerstone of any nutritious playlist. Originally an Italian offering of NWOBHM, their strength in the ’80s and ’90s produced three solid albums. After some breaks, touring, and a live album, the band steps up to 2016 with a full-length original, Too Heavy To Fly.
Too Heavy To Fly is a jewel with many facets: straightforward Rock, experimental themes, shredding, and soothing acoustics. Despite being their first LP in two decades, this album feels neither fragmented nor dated. The variations are arranged well, starting and ending with Traditional Metal tracks that sandwich a good mix of creative and catchy songs. Listeners will have fun finding movie references in “Tarantino Theme” and “007”. “In The Dark” is a tranquil instrumental, and “Rain” is a representation of the whole album with its varying tempos, a clean bridge, and devilish soloing. This fine album will reach out and leave you wondering why Vanexa waited so long to release it.
