( vote)Heaven Below hails from Los Angeles, USA, and Good Morning Apocalypse is a concept album boasting appearances by Udo, Lita Ford, Jason McMaster (Dangerous Toys and others), and Kobra Paige (Kobra, Lotus), meaning this band has managed to grab the attention of their senior peers thus far. But, why exactly, is not an easy determination. Heaven Below mixes a “clean” Hard Rock approach with some elements of Traditional Metal, which unfortunately makes Good Morning Apocalypse sound a bit sterile and predictable.
Patrick Kennison is the primary vocalist when the aforementioned guests are not at the mic… but oddly, each of those guest vocalists seem to mesh better with Heaven Below’s music than Kennison does. Part of the problem, no doubt, is the age-old paramount challenge with concept albums: how to create melody, catchiness, and “fit with the music” while trying to lay out a plot or force-fit a storyline. And Good Morning Apocalypse gets tripped up on its own feet often enough to lose its groove and cohesiveness, making for an overall “average” release.
