There is a church in Poland with a coffin-shaped roof. The monks who once lived there were obsessed with death. They adorned their church with grim reaper figures and other icons of eternal judgment. They would even sleep inside of coffins and lived by a simple motto: “Remember death.” In Latin, that is Memento Mori, the title of the fifth album by Norwegian band Sahg. The band chose this title to pay homage to the recent deaths of music legends Lemmy Kilmister and David Bowie.

Memento Mori is Sahg’s fifth record. They retain their unrefined Doom Metal sound, which can sometimes vary into the Psychedelic. “Electric Sun” almost sounds like it could be a song by The Moody Blues. Some other tracks sound like old Venom tunes. It must be noted that there is some impressive soloing on “Devilspeed,” which sounds like it’s by the Finnish band Amorphis. Memento Mori is a fine listen. But, since Sahg doesn’t seem to incorporate much of their own sound here, it’s hard to know exactly who they are.

Based out of Indianapolis, USA he was first turned on to Hard Rock music in the mid-1970s when he purchased Deep Purple's Machine Head as his first album. He was immediately enthralled with the powerful guitar sound and pronounced drumbeat, and had to get more! His collection quickly expanded to include as many of Heavy Rock bands of the time that he could get his hands on, such as Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few.
