Soulmates Lips and Robb Reiner are back as Anvil, and their latest offering is simply entitled Anvil Is Anvil. Rounding out the 3-piece is new bassist Chris Robertson, making 5 different bassists over the years (if anyone’s counting). Post-movie and especially beginning with Juggernaut Of Justice, Anvil has brought their sound and song structures to a much higher level. They’re still as traditional as Traditional Metal gets, but the last few Anvil albums have had more depth, clarity, and punch … and Anvil Is Anvil continues that trend. Too many tracks here become overly political, but overall this is an enjoyable release.
