Backwater is a pounding Thrash Metal band out of Germany, and Take Extreme Forms is their latest release. The 5-piece band plays relentlessly and without frills — sort of a crossover between Thrash and Death Metal. Vocalist Oliver Hirsch sings in a crossover mode as well, blending in his semi-melodic voice with thick, raspy shouts. With song titles such as “Nutz And Gutz,” “Crush,” and “The Tale Of Doom” you pretty much can imagine what you’re going to get … and you get plenty of it … unfortunately, the album shifts from novel to tiresome after just a few tracks.

Based out of Indianapolis, USA he was first turned on to Hard Rock music in the mid-1970s when he purchased Deep Purple's Machine Head as his first album. He was immediately enthralled with the powerful guitar sound and pronounced drumbeat, and had to get more! His collection quickly expanded to include as many of Heavy Rock bands of the time that he could get his hands on, such as Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few.
