Messenger is a Epic/Power Metal band hailing from Germany, and Starwolf is their concept album with a rather complex storyline centered on religious leaders squelching technology. As with most concept albums, the “trick of the trade” is to develop lyrics that tell a story while providing enough catchiness to allow each song to stand alone on its own merits. Messenger occasionally meets those objectives; however, the strength of the band clearly leans towards their musical abilities instead of their lyrical and vocal capabilities. As such, Starwolf is an interesting listen musically, but the lyrics tend to get in the way.

Based out of Indianapolis, USA he was first turned on to Hard Rock music in the mid-1970s when he purchased Deep Purple's Machine Head as his first album. He was immediately enthralled with the powerful guitar sound and pronounced drumbeat, and had to get more! His collection quickly expanded to include as many of Heavy Rock bands of the time that he could get his hands on, such as Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few.
