( votes)To say that “the apple doesn’t fall from the tree” when it comes to Lauren Harris and her dad, Steve Harris, Iron Maiden’s bass guitarist, is an understatement! Being recognized for her talent first and then for being Steve Harris’ daughter is a strong feather in her cap. Russ Ballard discovered Lauren in 2005 before her knew who her father was and this just opened more doors for her as the word spread throughout the Internet; then she got her first real break in 2006 when she was one of the opening acts for legendary shock rocker Alice Cooper in Sheffield which helped pave the way. Getting the opportunity to open for her Dad’s band, Iron Maiden, at Budokan in Tokyo and UK Hard Rock Hell Festival have just helped to validate and set her path in stone.
With strong Joan Jett type vocals Lauren really delivers songs that you enjoy to listen to at home, in the car, perhaps at the office, anywhere. A strong candidate for a favorite on the album Calm Before the Storm so far is the first track “Steal Your Fire”. It’s just got great Rock rhythm, vocals, and the production is great as well. Track number nine has a great Tom Petty feel to it but still the integrity of it being Lauren’s song is still intact. “Hit Or Miss” is kind of melancholy but without being what could be characterized as a sad song.
Another great thing about this is out of the twelve tracks on the album Lauren has writing credits on nine of the songs. She’s an all purpose musician in that… not only does she perform the songs but she has a big hand in the writing process and it’s evident that she gets that talent from her Dad as well.
It’s very exciting when up and coming female musicians can deliver a good product and bring in the masses and Lauren is really pulling this off. Her Dad has to be very proud of her. It would be great to see Lauren do some songs that are a little harder, not necessarily Maiden type music but she is talented enough that she could pull it off and it would be great to see her try.
