( votes)It’s sad to hear musicians from bands that were famous in the 1980s and 1990s try to hit it big again now and fail so badly. Singer and founder Michael Voss, former singer and guitarist in Mad Max and Bon Fire, joined up with Warlock drummer Michael Eurlich and bass and guitar players Jurgen Attig and Stephan Neumeier in 1990. In 1991 they released their debut album Casanova, and since then they have served us with four albums (and three EPs) all together. This last one is called All Beauty Must Die and contains eleven songs.
The first song, “On My Love,” is a bit like the Styx song “Babe.” For those of you who saw the Adam Sandler movie Big Daddy, where Sandlers’ character cries to that song, it’s a bit too sweet and pathetic … and so is “On My Love.”
“Happy” and “Not Over You” are two more catchy tunes. If any of these songs should turn out to be hits, it is likely to be these two.
A lot of their music could have been more like Def Leppard or Mötley Crüe if they just would have added a bit more raw guitar riffs. Instead, they have a bad tendency to sound more like Smokie.
Michael Voss’ voice is good, but he does have the tendency to sound like a woman at times. Their bass player, Jurgen Attig, also impresses, especially on “Last Of The unaways”.
The band does touch on quite a few exciting elements, like the Asian-inspired song “Psycho Lisa”(great title, by the way!). This track is a bit more Heavy Metal influenced than the rest of the album.
Casanova would probably be a hit at the roadhouse, but unfortunately they are too stuck in the sweet and sappy 80s to hit it big in concerts all around the world.
