VIRGO – Virgo

Virgo is the project that features former Angra vocalist Andre Matos and star producer Sascha Paeth. I don’t think making money is the motive behind this, as it is by no means meant to bring fans of Angra, Kamelot and Rhapsody to the local dealers in a hurry. There’s a lot of variety on this disc, both speaking of style and quality. But the melodies are good, and while the record shows more laidback music than the bands mentioned above, it proves once again that Andre Matos’ is one of the best composers out there. That’s really no news. The two present piano-parts with a Queen feel, ordinary hard rock and AOR, and gospel choirs. On top of all this, it helps being comfortable with Matos as a singer, a guy there’s a lot of different opinions about. This CD is for people with an open mind, not for fans of Running Wild and Grave Digger!
